M&S Renewal

Securing the future of M&S on King Street.

The proposals for the redevelopment of the M&S store at 27 King Street, will help to secure the future of M&S in the borough. By redeveloping the current store on King Street, along with student accommodation, the proposals provide the investment and renewal strategy that is required so that M&S can respond to the changing nature of retail.

The proposals will aim to open the new M&S Foodhall in time for Christmas 2024. M&S will ensure that all colleagues, customers and visitors are kept updated on the development timeline.

Protecting and supporting employment

The proposals will both protect and support employment:

  • All colleagues currently working at the store will be redeployed to another nearby M&S, whilst the new store is being redeveloped.
  • All colleagues will then be offered the chance to return to work in the new store when it reopens.
  • The new student facilities will create new employment opportunities for local residents.
